As everyone carefully watches the impact of property tax changes, Local Option Income Taxes (LOIT) can provide a valuable revenue alternative for local governments:
Ø LOIT can pay for budget increases, rather than funding them by using the allowable growth quotient to increase levies.
Ø LOIT can provide dollar-for-dollar property tax relief.
Ø LOIT may pay for public safety costs under certain conditions.

| What does it mean to be a CPA firm? – Part two of two |

In the preceding article in this series, we pointed out the value of having a CPA in your organization. Certified Public Accountants have an obligation to the organization they serve, their profession, the public and themselves to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct. To maintain their license, CPAs may not commit acts contrary to these standards or condone the commission of such acts by others within their organization. In addition, all CPAs usually must have 40 hours of continuing professional education credits annually. It is expected that all CPAs participate in learning activities that maintain and/or improve their professional competence.
